When Brandon Bethea's mom was diagnosed with cancer, she decided to make a bucket list. On her list was to swim with sharks. Sadly, she passed away from cancer before she was able to swim. Brandon kept her dream alive by going to Australia and swim with sharks. Inspired by his swim, Brandon founded Fin Forward, which creates milestone that fundamentally change individuals and illustrate the powers of personal perseverance and the human spirit. The experience that cancer survivors have is much about what happens after the experience as during it. If you are interested in helping Brandon or going on this once of a lifetime trip you wont want to miss this all new show. Available on demand now!

Mel talks to Josh of LympheDIVAS, a company co-founded by his sister Rachel Troxell. Rachel developed lymphedema, a side effect of breast cancer treatment that can cause permanent swelling in the arms. Her doctors recommended a compression sleeve to help. Not satisfied with the compression sleeves out there, the lack of options, colors, and moisture wicking properties, Rachel went to a fashion designer and LympheDIVAS was born. Sadly, Rachel's cancer came back and she passed away in 2008. Her legacy lives on with every LympheDIVA sleeve and gauntlet. Josh has graciously offered a free sleeve and gauntlet to one luckly listener of this podcast. Check out their facebook page and website for details!

Kareema Batts is a survivor I met at last year's Stupid Cancer summit in NYC. At first I didn't notice she was an amputee. Kareema talks candidly about being an amputee, how she wont define herself as disabled and how getting out of her comfort zone and rock climbing on a First Descents climbing experience changed her life. She now helps others step out of their comfort zone and climbs and advocates for other amputees. You can help Kareema help others by donating to her Brooklyn Boulders Climbing page. Sarah passed on May 3, 2011, less than a week later. Sarah Feather was an ovarian cancer survivor who battled the disease on and off for since 2006 and recently decided to end treatment. This is an important podcast for anyone touched by cancer. Listen to Sarah also known as The Carcinista talk about her decision. I am grateful that Sarah was able to share her story with me. Ultimately she taught people how to live, not how to die.

Being discovered by well known on air personality and actor Jay Thomas is only the beginning of Mark O'Toole's amazing journey. While in Boston he would call his friend a local DJ on WVBF-FM, it was there that Thomas invited Mark to Hollywood to be a part of his nationally syndicated radio show. While there he missed his first love singing. After moving to Las Vegas Mark appeared on Star Search in 1994 and won, beating out a five time winner. That caught the attention of the Vegas establishment where Mark started his career. While enjoying his fame and popularity in Las Vegas Mark was diagnosed with lymphoma and was given only a few weeks to live. Undaunted by his diagnosis he vowed to beat the disease, and after months of chemo Mark was told he was in remission. Mark shares his story of hope and prayer, and gives The Cancer Warrior world exclusive information about his new album The Crooner.

March 4, 2011 - Owen Applequist

How many young adult cancer survivors can say they found out they had cancer from their Mom? Owen Applequist did, because his mom is a physician. Owen was diagnosed with Hogdkins Lymphoma when he was 26. Not letting that stop him, he kept working and staying active. 15 months later he was diagnosed with Non-Hogdkins Lymphoma. Owen had already planned to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and he was determined that his cancer did not stop him from living his life to the fullest. Just 95 days after completing chemo he summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Owen raises awareness and money during his climbs and he is currently becoming an instructor for First Descents an organization that offers mountain climbing and other outdoor adventure sports for cancer survivors. <itunes:summary>How many young adult cancer survivors can say they found out they had cancer from their Mom?
