Born in Salem, MA, in 1971, Jeff Juden attended St. John’s Prep Catholic High SchJeff Juden ool in Danvers, MA, before transferring back to Salem High in 1987 to start the baseball season. He played in various youth leagues in Salem right up through high school, excelling on every team on which he played. His pitching strength growing up was having command of the fastball. Jeff and his father used to work on Jeff locating pitches in the backyard until his dad’s thumb turned red and it was time to stop. His father would move the glove around challenging Jeff to hit his spots. That’s where it all started for him. A 6’8”, 285 pound right hander, Jeff is one of the tallest players ever to put on a Major League uniform. Between 1991 and 1999, he played with Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Montreal, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Anaheim and the Yankees. He was 5-0 in 1996 and 11-6 in 1997. Used as both a starter and reliever during his career, Jeff whiffed 148 batters during the 1998 season. Jeff was drafted #1 by the Houston Astros in 1989. He entertained several college scholarship offers from schools all over the country, and signed a letter of intent with the University of Miami Hurricanes. But the Major Leagues beckoned him.
