The Truth About Pigs As Pets with Crystal Kimhan of VegasPigPets.org

Don't buy a Piglet, adopt a PigPet" is the slogan for VegasPigPets.org, a non-profit organization helping re-home abused and abandoned potbelly pigs, and educate owners about their specialized needs. Charly Kayle gets the truth about pigs as pets, and the "mini" myth, from founder & CEO Crystal Kimhan. Please know, there really is no such thing as a "teacup" pig.... it's a piglet who still grows up to be a large potbelly pig!

CrystalKimhan3_933316079.jpgCrystal Kimhan started out with one pet pig in 2005, then quickly learned there was a humongous problem with unwanted and abandoned pet pigs in Las Vegas. After volunteering at local shelters, she felt forced to start a specialized pig rescue herself, so in 2008, she founded VegasPigPets, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to help re-home potbelly pigs. She quickly realized the need for better education and laws. In 2012, with the help of other pig parents, she helped pass changes to make pigs "companion animals" in Clark County, NV, subjecting them to the same required spaying and neutering as dogs and cats, AND requiring backyard breeders to become licensed. She bought a half-acre property to foster and adopt out more pigs, but could only get a zoning permit for up to 8 pigs at a time, so she is always at capacity.

The "mini" pig lies continue to grow, as more breeders become desperate to sell litters of piglets. Find out why there really is no such thing as a teacup pig at https://www.teacuppig.info. Crystal concentrates on education and support to help owners keep their pigs, even as they outgrow their expectations. Sadly, the number of unwanted pigs keeps growing exponentially, as she works to help those she can, and network for the others. More about VegasPigPets at www.vegaspigpets.org.
