March 4, 2011 - Owen Applequist
How many young adult cancer survivors can say they found out they had cancer from their Mom? Owen Applequist did, because his mom is a physician. Owen was diagnosed with Hogdkins Lymphoma when he was 26. Not letting that stop him, he kept working and staying active. 15 months later he was diagnosed with Non-Hogdkins Lymphoma. Owen had already planned to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, and he was determined that his cancer did not stop him from living his life to the fullest. Just 95 days after completing chemo he summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Owen raises awareness and money during his climbs and he is currently becoming an instructor for First Descents an organization that offers mountain climbing and other outdoor adventure sports for cancer survivors.
