From Morning Radio to Running for San Diego City Council With Tommy Hough

On this edition of Voices of Vision Jane has the distinct pleasure of speaking with her friend Tommy Hough. They met years ago while working together on San Diego radio. Tommy's passion, communication skills and natural curiosity has led him to run for office in San Diego County. It's always empowering to speak with someone who cares about humanity and the planet. Tommy is driven by the obvious and extreme homeless situation in San Diego County. His non-stop fight for our environment is well documented. In his own words: "As an American and a San Diegan, I will not remain quiet as those who call San Diego home and who come here for a better life are marginalized by destructive forces from our nation's capitol. We stand firm behind our American and California values here in San Diego - where no human is illegal, where discrimination is not tolerated, and where competition, free markets and the free flow of ideas ensure choice and safety for all working residents of America's Finest City." It's another passionate motivated soul on Voices Of Vision!

A career broadcaster who recently served as morning host at 91X, Tommy first became known to San Diegans during his 10 years on the air at FM 94/9, and as the founder and host of the Brunch With Bob and Friends and Treehuggers International radio shows.

Putting his media aptitude to work for the environment, Tommy managed communications for the San Diego County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and Oregon Wild, and and also served as a news and content editor with Public News Service.

After lending communications assistance to U.S. House campaigns in 2006, 2012 and 2014, Tommy became one of the co-founders of San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action (SDCDEA) in 2014, and was elected as the organization's first president that same year.

Tommy_Hough_Banner_2_602084418.pngA two-term California Democratic Party delegate in the 77th Assembly District (AD-77), Tommy remains a booster of parks, wilderness and open space – and is committed to strengthening San Diego's middle class, enabling a more prosperous future, and providing honorable, ethicial, effective representation at City Hall that doesn't sell out working San Diegans.

As part of his campaign for city council, Tommy continues to call for long-term solutions to the city's homeless crisis, strong environmental protections, safer roads and streets, effective public safety, a greater volume of affordable housing, aggressive litter pickup efforts, community composting and full implementation of the city of San Diego's Climate Action Plan.

About Jane Asher:

Jane Asher is a natural connector, who got her start in the media world through radio in Michigan in 1980. She soon migrated west and has worked at legendary radio stations such as KTYD Santa Barbara, KGB, KSON and KIFM in San Diego. She was awarded the prestigious Marconi Award for her work at the Smooth Jazz station KIFM in 2005.

She researched, wrote, edited and produced the highly regarded and award-winning public affairs program San Diego Update. The Advertising Council recognized Jane for her continued commitment to effecting positive social change. While Jane's network continued to expand, so did her desire to grow her own business. She branched out into the world of voice over with a home studio in the 1990s. She is currently the voice of Cartier, Ferragamo and Michigan State University's program RELAX-Alternatives to Anger.

In 2010 her natural curiosity led her to expand her knowledge and business again, by including marketing and social media for businesses and non-profits. When anyone asks her what she does for a living she responds; "I connect inspired people with one another, especially those with a desire to help others." Helping to elevate other people is one of her personal passions.

Jane has been involved in many international missions. She is part of a team that has been building homes for the impoverished over the past five years in Tijuana. She has traveled to El Salvador to feed the homeless on a humanitarian mission in 2011. Recently, she traveled to Malaysia to help build a school on Borneo. She was so moved by her visit; upon her return, she raised money to pay for the education of thirteen children in a school in Keningau.

Her vast connections across all media platforms bring a wealth of passionate and empowered individuals to her show. If you are doing something to make this life experience more rewarding for others...she wants to talk to you.
